There’s a saying that “no good deed goes unpunished”. Sometimes, it may feel like this is completely true as nowadays, people seem not to be able to relate to the word ‘gratitude’. There are some individuals whom you have helped along the way, yet no matter what you do for them, it seems never to be enough in their eyes. I believe that some people are just so void of gratitude that no matter what someone does for them, they can easily turn and say that that person has done absolutely nothing for them. This is certainly not looked upon by God as being acceptable. Remember the account of Jesus healing the ten lepers as recorded in Luke 17:11-19? Only one returned to thank Him, after which Jesus asked: “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?” The correct and proper thing for each of them to do was to express gratitude to the Person who had just helped them. Unfortunately, many people today (and obviously back then too) seem to possess the mentality that they are “entitled” to everything that is given to them. This is so sad because the truth of the matter is that none of us are well deserving of anything because without the grace and mercy of God, our Creator, all of us would be doomed.
For many awesome blessings to follow us and track us down, having a heart of gratitude is a definite pre-requisite. Everyone can employ their sense of gratitude. No matter how difficult the circumstance may be in your life, there is always something you can find to be thankful for, and as bad as things may appear to be at times, they could always be worse. Looking at life from that perspective is a means to keep us all on track.
Nevertheless, continue to do good and don’t be weary of it. Every good deed is rewarded. God is always watching. When done with the right motives, your good deeds become seeds that will reap a great harvest for you in your future. Save yourself some heartache and do not expect gratitude from those you help. Instead, be happy with the good you have done and know that your reward will definitely come from above.
