Exclusive Blurb for ‘The Haunting of Merci Hospital’

The Official Diane Morasco Website™

the-haunting-of-mercy-hospitalNo one expects to visit the hospital for a non-threatening injury only to never come out again. Merci Hospital, one the oldest in the county, has served countless patients for practically decades. However, something is now very odd about the place as some who are admitted report seeing things that are not there and others never get to talk about it.

Catherine Lucene is fairly new at Merci, a highly regarded nurse whose reputation for excellence and compassion in healthcare precedes her. She gradually becomes aware of the inexplicably sinister happenings at the hospital, but the underlying cause of it all evades her. Will Catherine’s determination to uncover the truth help preserve the lives of those not yet lost–including her own–or will her curiosity of the “unknown” propel her into a horrifying state of being she never knew existed?

A Full Circle Moment – The Cover Reveal for ‘The Haunting of Merci Hospital’

How delightful this is for Diane Morasco to have revealed the cover of my upcoming Spring 2017 release.

The Official Diane Morasco Website™

My first introduction to the prolific storytelling phenomenon, Tanya R. Taylor was Haunted Cruise. Her thrilling tale led me to write “Tanya R. Taylor is the possessor of one of the most ingenious and infinite minds in the horror genre to come along since Clive Barker, Stephen King and Ruth Rendell.” Those words written in a review for Blogcritics caught the attention of America’s Most Haunted who tweeted, “With #HauntedCruise, author #TanyaRTaylor Joins Ranks of #Horror Greats.” High praise!

I am over the moon to reveal the cover for the second book in Taylor’s Haunted Series, The Haunting of Merci Hospital. I have been gifted a full circle moment with this honor bestowed to me by the enchanting wordsmith herself. And, yes, tears of joy are falling. Full. Circle. Moment.

Recent review for ‘Revenge of Cornelius’ – Book 2 in the Cornelius saga

Revenge of Cornelius is a spin-off from the popular spine-tingling tale, Cornelius – recent #1 best-seller in Amazon’s Teen & Young adult Multi-generational Family Fiction category.

Recent review:

  March 19, 2016

“I really enjoyed this second story, old and new characters getting another taste of Cornelius and his rotten ways. I loved the fact that we get an older version of the family I fell in love with the first time around. Even sweeter than before and just as heartbreaking at times. Good, quick entertaining read for the young and not so young.”

Excerpt:

The yard had a sickening silence around it—one that she had felt inside the house many times, especially at night. There was a light mist in the air as well, which was hugely unusual for that time of day. Then approximately, seventy-five feet near the edge of the property that led into an area of land densely populated by fruit-bearing trees and overgrown brush, she saw Theo advancing.

His white shirt was muddied with dirt and his short, black pants were darted with tiny prickles. He was sweating profusely.

“Where have you been?” Andrea asked curiously. “And where’s Rosie?”

The closer he got to her, Andrea could see that the pupils of his eyes had an abnormally darker hue and the expression on his face was blank and unreadable.

“I saw her walk through the family room and out onto the deck,” he started. “I thought she was just going to sit outside, but after a while I noticed she never came back in. That’s when I went to look for her.”

Andrea was listening intently and watching the mannerism that didn’t appear to belong to her husband.

“I didn’t say anything to you because I thought I’d find her playing in the yard. After I didn’t see her, I went further off into the property to look for her, but I have no idea where she went.” He shrugged.

“My God! This can’t be happening!” Andrea exclaimed, worrying less about Theo’s odd behavior and more about the child’s sudden disappearance. “We have to find her!”

Wandering Around In The Dark Is No Fun At All…

“I’m not quite sure what I was expecting when I downloaded this book. I thought it would be a little supernatural tale with a small romantic spin. Well, what I got was a sad but hauntingly beautiful tale of love lost and found, past and present. It was so well written and I cried like a baby in the end. I’ll definitely check out more work by this author, I’d like to see what other spooky stories she has to offer.” –  Verified Amazon customer

Excerpt from the Spine-tingling Tale ‘Cornelius’:

———————————————–

Before stepping inside, Wade looked at her, “You mind letting up a bit? You’re squeezing my arm.”

“Oh sorry,” Mira replied nervously.

They walked inside together—eyes darting in all directions of the spacious interior. The white paint on the wall was chipped in several places and the dusty floor had been speckled with creature droppings and smudges of dirt and mud. There was no furniture in sight—just a large, empty space. Wade and Mira walked slowly ahead and entered a room that looked like an extension of the living room, only separated by an arched wall.

“Hello…” Wade called out again.

“Is anyone here?” Mira said behind him, voice breaking at the end.

They proceeded through the large front area then entered what looked like the kitchen. There was one row of cabinets still attached to the upper northern section of the wall with a few missing doors. Some doors were slanted due to rusty, broken hinges. There were three other sections of the wall where only the imprint of cabinets remained presenting a theory to the observer that they might have been cleanly extracted at some point by thieves.

“This place is a mess,” Mira uttered, still holding her brother’s arm.

“Yeah. You notice that just about every door around here is missing?”

“Yeah.”

“Let’s go upstairs,” Wade released Mira’s grip. “Follow me.”

“No way! You know I’m afraid of heights!” Mira whispered loudly.

“Just hold on to the rail. You’ll be fine,” Wade replied before heading up the long winding staircase.

Feeling that she would rather be with him than downstairs alone in the old, creepy house that resembled something from a horror flick, she took a deep breath in and decided to follow him. The ceiling of the house was extremely tall and as Mira carefully followed Wade up the stairs, she couldn’t help but wonder how the owners ever managed to change a light bulb up there whenever necessary. As they climbed the staircase, the wood beneath their feet creaked and Mira had no idea how she would ever get back down.

They made it to the second landing and refusing at that point to look down over the rail, Mira trailed closely behind Wade who had entered one of the bedrooms.

“Wow! This room is huge!” Wade remarked, hurrying over to a large window on the western side of the room. “Hee, hee!” He laughed looking down at the yard. “The second floor of this house must be at least a hundred feet from the ground!”

Mira quietly advanced toward the entrance of what looked like the walk-in closet. As she looked in, something immediately caught her eye. The floating image of a black woman was at the far end of the room. The apparition appeared relatively young with frazzled, black hair that hung tiredly just above her shoulders. Her face, rough and haggard, exuded a sadness that Mira could feel deep within her bones, and the thin, white dress the woman wore was drenched in what appeared to be blood around the mid-section where long trails of it had slid down to the end. Momentarily frozen by the sight of this woman, Mira’s mouth hung open, yet no voice escaped. The woman’s veiny eyes seemed to be begging, pleading… for something. Then her hand reached up toward Mira, re-enforcing what the little girl already felt was a cry for help. At that point, a blood-curdling scream escaped Mira’s lungs and she darted outside of the room—Wade running behind her.

With a fear of heights that paled in comparison to what she saw in that room, before Mira knew it, she was at the bottom of the staircase and out of the house.

“What’s wrong?” Wade called out to her in the yard. “Wait for me, Mira!”

She had run a good distance away from the house before even thinking of stopping.

“Tell me what’s wrong!” Wade insisted after catching up to her. “I never saw you run that fast in my life.”

“I know I shouldn’t have listened to you, Wade. You’re a jerk! We never should have come here,” Mira blasted, walking hurriedly.

“What did I do?” Wade was confused.

“I don’t wanna talk about it right now. I just wanna go home.”

realillusions3(b&w)Real Illusions III: BONE OF MY BONE

Excerpt:

“Okay, I hope you’re happy now,” Deed said to the ghost that stood next to him. “I told him the whole deal; now do you mind just going away for a while and giving me some extra room to breathe?”

They were both standing in the doorway watching as Trent reversed out of the yard.

“He won’t listen,” Peter said solemnly.

“Well, that’s just too bad. Ain’t it?” Deed gave him an irritated look. “Not my problem, buddy. Remember… I’m just the messenger.”

He turned around only to find Peter directly in front of him. “He loves her too much,” Peter said, his eyes so dull and lifeless—the looks of which made Deed want to take a drink.

“So what does that have to do with me?” Deed probed. “What’re you saying anyway? He loves her too much. What? What?”

Peter’s gaze was piercing. “You must warn him,” he said before vanishing into thin air.

Deed shook his head. “That guy’s determined to be a needle in my butt. The more you do for these blasted ghosts the more they want from you! Hell with it!” He slammed the front door.

* * *

This just can’t be happening, Trent thought. That Deed Grumbley guy must be out of his mind! Yet, deep inside Trent knew better—the guy had spoken with such veracity that only a fool would choose to ignore what had stared him right in the face. As he pulled into the parking lot of the hospital, the fact that Deed basically confirmed everything Tina had been telling him all the while weighed heavily on Trent. She was in a place he knew she didn’t belong and he had put her through so much emotional pain that he was certain she would never forgive him.

He picked up the single rose he had purchased at a stop light on his way there and walked into the building toward Palenski’s office.

“Come right in!” Palenski was standing at his desk. “When my secretary said you were here, I knew I couldn’t have you waiting as you’re a very busy man, Mister Matheson.”

Trent took a seat. He hadn’t recalled seeing Palenski that upbeat before and wondered if his partial consumption of the cup of coffee on his desk was responsible.

“Is that for me?” Palenski asked, eyeing the rose.

“I think not,” Trent replied, obviously in no mood for meaningless chatter and definitely not for jokes.

Palenski sat down. “Can I offer you some coffee or tea?”

“No thanks, Doc. I’m just here to see Tina and to find out how she’s progressing.”

“Well, the good news is that we might have pin-pointed the appropriate medication for her. She’s responding very well to it and after a little more observation, I would be able to revert to you. If she continues to do well, she will be back home with you and your baby in short order. However, the key is to ensure that she takes her medication precisely as prescribed because we don’t want any distressing episodes to arise as before. You know what I mean.”

“I do,” Trent affirmed.

“Well, I don’t want to keep you any longer than necessary, so I’ll walk with you to her room. We can chat on the way.”
